Gun grab struggle erupts as officers seize loaded weapon and arrest three in Dorchester
BOSTON, MA – A street encounter in Dorchester escalated into a physical struggle over a loaded firearm as officers confronted a suspect, leading to three arrests and the recovery of a weapon during a crowded and chaotic scene.
The incident unfolded around 7:08 p.m. Monday near Blue Hill Avenue and Paxton Street, where officers on patrol observed a large group of mopeds and pedestrians gathered at the intersection. Police said one individual separated from the group and began walking away before reversing direction while keeping his hands inside his sweatshirt pocket.
As officers approached, another individual moved toward them and made contact in an apparent effort to slow their progress. When officers attempted to detain the initial suspect, he tried to flee and pulled out a firearm, prompting a struggle.
During the confrontation, an officer grabbed the slide of the weapon while the suspect maintained control of the grip. A second individual intervened, attempting to pull the officer away as the struggle continued. Additional officers arrived and both suspects were taken into custody.
Police recovered a Sig Sauer P320 firearm loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition.
As the incident unfolded, a growing crowd disrupted traffic and interfered with officers. A third individual confronted officers and pushed one of them before being taken into custody.
Authorities identified the suspects as Charles Arvin, 24, Alonzo Jinwright, 27, and Antoine Singleton, 26, all of Dorchester.
Arvin faces multiple charges, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and assault and battery on a police officer. Jinwright is charged with assault and battery on a police officer, interfering with a police officer, and resisting arrest. Singleton is charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace.
All three are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
