Man arrested after bottle attack and vandalism spree in Northeast DC
WASHINGTON, DC — A man was taken into custody late Friday night after a violent outburst in Northeast Washington where two people were injured and a vehicle was vandalized during a chaotic assault involving a glass bottle.
The incident unfolded just after 10 p.m. on the 3700 block of Minnesota Avenue, where a suspect allegedly entered a business and attempted to steal property. When a victim confronted him, the suspect reportedly struck the individual with a bottle, causing minor injuries, and then smashed the windshield of the victim’s vehicle.
The assault continued when the suspect hurled a bottle at a woman nearby, also injuring her. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District arrived on scene while the attacks were still in progress and immediately placed the suspect under arrest.
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old William James Crist of Southeast, DC. He has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Bottle), Simple Assault, and Destruction of Property following the violent encounter.
Authorities confirmed that both victims sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. The motive behind the initial theft attempt and subsequent attacks remains unclear.
