Marathon Monday chaos ends with suspect cuffed after stealing police bike

Boston, MA — A man was arrested after taking a police bicycle during crowd control efforts along the Boston Marathon route, leading officers on a brief pursuit through a residential area.

The incident unfolded around 10:15 a.m. Monday on Foster Street, where officers from Boston Police and assisting agencies were dispersing large تجمعs gathered behind homes.

During the operation, officers had parked their bicycles near 292 Foster Street when a suspect jumped onto one and rode off toward Radnor Road.

Police said the suspect abandoned the bicycle in a nearby driveway and attempted to flee on foot by jumping a fence.

Officers quickly converged on the area and took the suspect into custody.

Augustus Peterson, 19, of Evanston, Illinois, was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Brighton District Court on a charge of larceny over $1,200.
