Maryland fugitive wanted for murder arrested in Delaware

Delaware officers arrest Maryland murder suspect in armed vehicle stop.

A man wanted in connection with a homicide in Maryland was arrested Friday evening in Millsboro, Delaware, after a coordinated operation by Delaware State Police and the Millsboro Police Department.

Fernando Medina-Moreta, 28, of Seaford, was apprehended without incident following a traffic stop on DuPont Boulevard near Avenue of Honor Road. Authorities had received a tip around 7:45 p.m. that the suspect was parked outside a business on Centerview Drive, operating a dark gray Honda Accord with Delaware plates.

State troopers quickly located the vehicle and initiated the stop. During the arrest, Medina-Moreta’s identity was confirmed, and a search of the car uncovered a loaded 9mm Glock handgun hidden under the driver’s seat. A records check showed the firearm had been reported stolen from Pennsylvania.

In addition to being a fugitive from Maryland, Medina-Moreta now faces multiple felony charges in Delaware, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and receiving a stolen firearm.

Suspect held without incident, extradition pending

Medina-Moreta was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $13,500 cash bail. He is currently awaiting extradition proceedings to face charges in Maryland related to the homicide case.

Authorities have not released details regarding the Maryland homicide investigation or Medina-Moreta’s alleged role in that incident.

Delaware State Police credited the swift response and collaboration with Millsboro Police in safely apprehending the suspect and recovering a stolen firearm without further incident.
