Bel Air woman wins $50000 lottery prize after calling sister for help

Bel Air, MD – A Harford County woman who admits she rarely plays the lottery is now $50,000 richer after a MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off turned out to be a top-prize winner with an assist from her sister.

The Bel Air resident said she usually only buys tickets when jackpots grab her attention. Last week, along with her Powerball purchase, she decided to try her luck on the $5 MONOPOLY game. When she scratched it at home, she realized she didn’t understand how to play.

Unsure what to do, she called her sister, who told her to scratch the entire ticket. Still confused, she sent a photo of the ticket by phone. That’s when her sister delivered the news: she had just won $50,000.

She and her husband claimed the prize Tuesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Though they don’t plan on spending the money right away, the couple said some of it will go toward helping family members. For now, they’re letting the shock sink in.

The winning ticket was sold at Carroll Motor Fuels on Jarrettsville Pike in Phoenix, which will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize ticket.
