Salisbury man sentenced to decades after brutal attempted murder
SALISBURY, MD — A Maryland man has been sentenced to life in prison, with all but 50 years suspended, after shooting a woman multiple times in a domestic-related attack, prosecutors said.
Dequan Bratten, 33, of Salisbury, was sentenced on March 20 in Wicomico County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree murder and firearms offenses.
Authorities said the case stemmed from a November 16, 2024 confrontation involving allegations of infidelity.
Following the dispute, Bratten obtained a handgun through an illegal straw purchase and later waited for the victim at her residence.
When she returned home from work, he shot her four times as she tried to flee, according to investigators.
Despite the severity of the attack, the victim survived.
Prosecutors said Bratten will serve 50 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised probation upon release.
