Baltimore man lands 50000 scratch off win thanks to lucky silver coin

BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore medical worker ended a phone conversation mid-sentence after realizing a scratch-off he purchased had the markings of a major win, setting the stage for a $50,000 surprise he later claimed at Lottery headquarters.

The East Baltimore resident said he was on the phone with a friend while working through a MONOPOLY X200 ticket when he spotted what looked like a winning symbol. He immediately ended the call and moved to a quiet room to finish scratching. Although none of the numbers matched, the ticket revealed three multipliers — 50X on $200, 200X on $100, and 100X on $200 — automatically awarding him the $50,000 prize.

He said he tried to rest before tallying the total, but sleep never came as he replayed the numbers in his head.

The winner credits his streak of luck to a silver coin handed to him by a Lottery retailer two years ago, which he has used on every scratch-off since. He said he doesn’t know where the clerk got the coin, but it has delivered consistent good fortune.

He plans to use the prize to pay off bills.

The winning ticket was purchased at Towson’s Quick Mart at 8604 Loch Raven Boulevard in Baltimore County. The $30 MONOPOLY X200 game launched in November 2024 with four top prizes of $2 million and six second-tier prizes of $50,000. Two top prizes and four second-tier prizes remain unclaimed, along with prizes ranging from $30 to $10,000.
