TINTON FALLS, NJ — A fire early Sunday morning caused significant damage to the office of New Jersey lawmakers at 766 Shrewsbury Avenue, prompting the temporary closure of the facility, officials confirmed.
In an email to constituents, the Democratic legislators, Senator Vin Gopal, Assemblywoman Margie Donlon, and Assemblywoman Luanne Peterpaul, said the office is closed for in-person appointments and meetings while the building undergoes safety assessments. Staff will be working remotely until further notice.
Police have not identified the cause of the fire.
The lawmakers expressed gratitude to Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 for leading the firefighting efforts, as well as to multiple fire departments from across the region that assisted in containing the blaze. Departments from Asbury Park, Shrewsbury, Little Silver, South Wall, Glendola, Sea Bright, Rumson, Wanamassa, Shark River Hills, Unexcelled, and Neptune City were among those who responded.
“We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the Tinton Falls Fire Company No. 1 for leading the response to the fire and coordinating efforts to contain it,” the lawmakers said in the email.
