PITTSBURGH, PA – In the early hours of June 17, 2024, detectives from the Pittsburgh Police Violence Prevention Unit made significant arrests following a gunshot incident in the city.

The disturbance occurred just before 2:15 AM near Wright’s Way and S. 18th Street. Detectives on patrol heard a gunshot and upon investigating, found four individuals engaged in a physical altercation in a nearby parking lot. Several others were seen fleeing the scene.

Rayshan Hammond, 30, from Penn Hills, was arrested after a stolen firearm was discovered under a vehicle. Hammond faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Carrying a Firearm Without a License, among other offenses.

A related incident unfolded shortly after at 2:45 AM when detectives spotted another individual, Andre Yates, 24, returning to a vehicle in the same parking lot. This vehicle was found to contain a firearm with a Glock switch and had been reported stolen out of Detroit, MI. Yates was arrested and charged with similar firearms-related offenses.

These incidents highlight ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address violent crime and firearm-related offenses in the area.
