New Jersey Among Top States Where Residents Worried About Cybersecurity Threats

NEW JERSEY—Amid rising cybercrime incidents, New Jersey has emerged as one of the top states concerned about cybersecurity threats, according to a recent analysis by CyberNut. The state ranks eighth nationally in terms of queries per 100,000 residents, with approximately 1 in 1,408 people searching for cybersecurity-related information each month.

Oliver Page, CEO of CyberNut, emphasizes the importance of comprehensive measures to combat cyber threats at individual, state, and international levels. His analysis suggests that areas like the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia are also highly concerned, reflecting their roles as economic and technological hubs with substantial cyber-awareness initiatives.

In response to increasing cyber incidents, such as the massive data leak in Washington, D.C., and a significant cyberattack in Suffolk County, New York, the Biden administration has introduced a National Cybersecurity Strategy aimed at protecting critical infrastructure and disrupting cybercriminal activities. This strategy is part of a broader effort to ensure safer internet use across the nation.

Oliver Page advises the public to adopt practical cybersecurity measures such as regular software updates, the use of VPNs, installing antivirus software, and updating social media privacy settings to protect against cyber threats effectively.
