Key Points
- Leo Hurley, 48, arrested for DWI after crash on West Chicago Boulevard
- Arrest made by Patrolman Julia Cutolo at approximately 1:56 a.m.
- Hurley released under New Jersey’s John’s Law after processing
Hurley is a longtime attorney practicing in New Jersey and New York, where he has handled both civil and criminal matters. He currently serves as co-chair of a commercial litigation group and has represented clients in cases involving financial fraud, regulatory issues, and white-collar defense.
Legal career includes high-profile political case
Before entering private practice, Hurley served as an Assistant Hudson County Prosecutor, where he handled felony cases and trial work. In private practice, he has represented a range of clients, including public officials and candidates.
One of his more notable cases involved former Bayonne mayoral candidate and Assemblyman Jason O’Donnell. Hurley argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court that the state’s bribery statute did not apply to political candidates who were not yet in office, asserting that a “mere candidate” could not be charged under that law.
The court ultimately allowed the case to proceed, rejecting that interpretation.
No further information has been released regarding Hurley’s DWI charge. As with all criminal cases, he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
