TOMS RIVER, NJ – Authorities have announced the conviction of Christopher Gregor, a 32-year-old from Monroe Township, for the aggravated manslaughter of his six-year-old son, identified only as C.M. The verdict followed a nearly six-week-long jury trial presided over by Honorable Guy P. Ryan, P.J.Cr.P.
On May 31, 2024, the jury found Gregor guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of recklessly causing the death of his son on April 2, 2021, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life. Additionally, Gregor was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child for events that occurred on March 20, 2021, in Barnegat Township, where he knowingly harmed C.M., thereby categorizing him as an abused or neglected child.
Gregor faces up to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison for the aggravated manslaughter offense, in accordance with the No Early Release Act. He also faces up to ten years for the endangerment offense. Sentencing is scheduled for August 2, 2024.
The initial investigation began when Stafford Township Police responded to Southern Ocean Medical Center following the death of C.M. A post-mortem examination revealed the child sustained fatal injuries due to blunt force trauma to his chest and abdomen.
Further investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and local police departments uncovered evidence of abuse by Gregor in the days leading up to the fatal incident.
Gregor was taken into custody on March 9, 2022, and has been held in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.
Prosecutor Billhimer expressed hope that the verdict brings some peace and closure to those affected by this tragic case, stating, “While nothing can bring this precious child back to his family, we hope that today’s jury verdict offers some semblance of peace and closure for those who knew and loved Corey. At long last, justice for Corey has been accomplished.”
