TRENTON — New Jersey commuters faced a mix of road treatments, crashes, and delays Monday morning, with multiple incidents reported across major highways.
Road treatment operations were underway on the Atlantic City-Brigantine Connector and the Atlantic City Expressway in both directions. Drivers were urged to move over for highway workers.
Several crashes disrupted traffic, including one on the New Jersey Turnpike – Eastern Spur northbound near Interchange 15E in Newark, which blocked the right shoulder. Another crash on Port Jersey Boulevard in Jersey City shut down all lanes in both directions.
A sinkhole forced the full closure of I-80 eastbound at Exit 34 in Wharton, while a crash investigation shut down all lanes on US 322 westbound in Hamilton Township.
Other incidents included a disabled tractor-trailer on NJ 208 southbound in Hawthorne, which closed one right lane, and a disabled vehicle on the Garden State Parkway express lanes southbound near Exit 109 in Middletown Township, which remained on the left shoulder.
Traffic delays were widespread, with congestion on US 9 in Lakewood Township, NJ 29 in Trenton, and the New Jersey Turnpike – Eastern Spur in Newark, where delays stretched 1.5 miles. The Holland Tunnel eastbound reported a 20-minute travel time from both the New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C and NJ 139 at Tonnelle Circle.
