New Jersey’s public schools are in turmoil, and the Democratic candidates vying to become the next governor are nowhere to be found on the issue.
Districts across the state are slashing staff, cutting sports and extracurriculars, reducing classroom resources, and even closing or selling school buildings.
This is a crisis that threatens the future of our children, yet the crowded field of Democratic hopefuls remains silent, blindly endorsing Governor Phil Murphy’s flawed education policies and the billions in spending on housing, feeding, and healthcare for illegal migrants—funds that could have saved our schools.
The devastation is undeniable. Schools in suburban and rural areas are hemorrhaging resources, with teachers losing jobs and students losing opportunities. Class sizes are ballooning, special education services are being cut, and beloved community schools are shutting their doors. Meanwhile, urban districts receive disproportionate support, leaving many families feeling abandoned.
The root of this chaos lies in Murphy’s school funding approach, which has pitted communities against each other, starving some districts while others see gains. The result is a fractured system where no one wins—except, apparently, the politicians who refuse to acknowledge the problem.
The Democratic candidates should be sounding the alarm, proposing bold solutions to stabilize school budgets, protect educators, and preserve the programs that make New Jersey’s schools exceptional.
Instead, they offer vague promises about affordability or opportunity, sidestepping the urgent need to fix a broken funding system. Worse, they continue to back Murphy’s immigration policies, which funnel state resources to support illegal migrants at the expense of our children’s education.
Billions that could shore up struggling districts are instead spent on services that prioritize non-residents over New Jersey’s own families.
Democrats, unfortunately own the mess they created, collectively. Every single candidate in the running has openly endorsed the governor’s ‘trailblazing’ educational agenda. They not only cheerered the governor’s every move, they endorsed and supported Murphy over the past eight years.
This silence is more than a policy misstep; it’s a betrayal.
Parents are watching their schools crumble, and they’re angry. Teachers are stretched thin, and students are losing the chances they deserve. Yet, the Democratic field seems content to coast on Murphy’s coattails, ignoring the wreckage his policies have left behind. Their refusal to question the state’s spending priorities—particularly the massive costs of supporting illegal migrants—shows a disconnect from the families struggling to keep their schools afloat.
New Jersey deserves better.
The 2025 gubernatorial race is a chance to elect a leader who will put our children first, reform a failing funding system, and redirect resources to where they belong: our classrooms. The Democratic candidates must wake up to this crisis.
