New kosher supermarket coming to jackson

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Aisle 9, a Kosher supermarket and deli is coming to Jackson Township. The flagship Jackson store will be located in the newly built Liberty Commons plaza, across the street from the Jackson Crossing Plaza. Aisle 9’s Jackson location will feature 16,000 square feet of shopping and will stock a large selection of Kosher-certified foods to supply the growing Orthodox Jewish community in the town. Aisle 9 operates another location on Route 9 in Lakewood.

The application was approved unanimously by Township Councilman Marty Flemming, Business Administrator Terrance Wall and the six other members of the Jackson Township Planning Board.

The business is expected to hire 35 full-time employees and will be open from 7 am to 11 pm, Sunday Through Thursday night and closing in conjunction with the sabbath on Friday nights. They will be closed on Saturdays and all Jewish holidays.

The supermarket will compete with a nearby Kosher West, located in Westgate, down the street in Lakewood; NPGS on County Line Road, Glory’s Market and Pezzolante’s in the Jackson Crossing Plaza, hoping to attract both Kosher and non Kosher customers.

As the new Liberty Commons Plaza nears completion and tenants begin moving in, the nearby Jackson Crossings Plaza has been losing tenants in recent months and is now up for sale by the owner Cardinale Enterprises. This year, the Karate Dojo and Jackson Diner closed for good. Last year, Ray’s Pizza was sold to the owners of a new Kosher pizzeria Kalamata Italian Cafe. An organic cafe, Ocean Organics Juice Bar has seen been taken over by new owners and renamed Joseph and David’s Juice for Life. Many storefronts in the plaza remained vacant throughout the pandemic, including the large Surf Taco bar and restaurant which was closed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, tents and benches were set up anticipating a reopening. The restaurant is now open for pickup, delivery, and full-service outdoor dining.
