NEWARK, Del. – A Long Island man was arrested Saturday evening after allegedly breaking into a residence on South Chapel Street, according to the Newark Police Department.
Officers responded around 6:15 p.m. on May 25 to the unit block of South Chapel Street following a 911 call from a witness who reported seeing an unknown male enter a home. Upon arrival, police located the suspect outside the residence and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as Darryl Dunlap, 65, of Long Island, New York. Investigators said a window had been shattered at the scene, and evidence suggested Dunlap used a mailbox to break it. Police also recovered property belonging to the residents in Dunlap’s possession.
Dunlap was charged with burglary in the second degree, criminal mischief under $1,500, and theft under $1,500. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 11.
Suspect held on secured bond following arraignment
Following his arraignment, Dunlap was issued a $6,100 secured bond and a no-contact order with the City of Newark. He was then transported to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
The incident remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
