ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A former resident director of an assisted living facility has been charged with theft after allegedly stealing nearly $60,000 from an elderly resident over a two-year period, police said.
Tanya Palmer, 50, worked at Pleasant Ridge Mature Living Facility in Allegheny Township, where authorities say she pocketed money from an 81-year-old resident while allowing him to stay in the facility rent-free. The theft was discovered after new owners took over the facility and reported their suspicions to police in October 2024.
Investigators determined that Palmer used the resident’s debit card information and PIN to withdraw unauthorized cash. Surveillance footage from a bank confirmed that multiple ATM withdrawals were made by Palmer, police said.
Authorities also believe Palmer may have exploited a second resident by obtaining a blank check under the pretense of overdue rent. A check for $4,400 was later deposited with the owner’s name redacted, but it was ultimately returned.
Palmer is accused of stealing approximately $59,656 from the first victim between 2022 and 2024. She has been charged with theft and other related offenses, according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office.
