GREENSBURG, Pa. — The death of Amy Shipley, 45, of Ligonier, has been officially ruled a homicide following an extensive investigation by the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office, the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office, and the Ligonier Valley Police.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Jennifer Hammers determined that Shipley died as a result of homicidal violence, including multiple blunt force injuries. An autopsy revealed that Shipley sustained numerous traumatic injuries and had broken bones in various stages of healing, indicating a pattern of ongoing abuse.
Shipley’s body was discovered in a makeshift grave on a property along Helens Lane in Cook Township. The property was frequently visited by Roger Angelo, 48, Shipley’s live-in boyfriend at the time of her disappearance.
Shipley was reported missing on September 13, 2024, after family and friends had not heard from her for several days. Authorities believe she was killed in her home on September 8, 2024, and subsequently buried on the Helens Lane property.
Before charges could be filed, Angelo died by suicide on September 19, 2024. He was expected to be charged with criminal homicide in connection with Shipley’s death.
The Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office expressed its condolences to Shipley’s family and reiterated its commitment to seeking justice in cases of domestic violence and homicide.
