Bronx, NY – A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for shooting a gas station attendant in the head at a Bronx fuel station, leaving the victim with life-altering injuries that continue years after the attack.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced that Termaine Saulsbury, 42, was sentenced on June 30 by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Samuel David after pleading guilty in April to attempted murder in the second degree. His sentence also includes five years of post-release supervision.
Victim survived devastating gunshot wound
According to prosecutors, the shooting occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on Nov. 22, 2022, inside a gas station at 2290 Boston Road. Investigators said Saulsbury entered the station’s office, opened the door, and immediately fired a single shot into the head of a 59-year-old employee, piercing his skull.
“The defendant opened the door of the victim’s office and shot him in the head,” District Attorney Clark said. “Although the victim miraculously survived the attack, he still faces challenges a decade later. The defendant now has been held accountable for this brutal, senseless crime.”
The victim underwent multiple surgeries following the shooting and required a ventilator and feeding tube for several months. Prosecutors said he continues to suffer lasting effects from the attack.
Defendant fled to Pennsylvania
Authorities said Saulsbury fled to Pennsylvania the day after the Bronx shooting, where he later shot a Philadelphia Parking Authority officer. He remained in custody there until he was extradited to New York in January.
In Pennsylvania, Saulsbury pleaded guilty to attempted murder and firearms offenses and received a sentence of 17½ to 35 years in prison. Prosecutors said the New York sentence will run concurrently with his Pennsylvania prison term.
The Bronx case was prosecuted by Senior Trial Assistant Paul Irace of Trial Bureau 60. District Attorney Clark also credited members of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, along with NYPD personnel assigned to the 49th Precinct, for their work investigating the case.
