Pittsburgh Police Officer Injured After Being Struck By Fleeing Burglar

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County Police are investigating a critical incident in which a Pittsburgh Police officer was injured after being struck by a vehicle driven by a burglary suspect in the area of Althea Street and Altamont Way in Zone 3 on Tuesday.

The incident occurred as officers approached the suspect, identified as William Skinner, 36, of Pittsburgh, in connection with multiple burglaries. Upon contact, Skinner allegedly struck the officer with his vehicle, prompting shots to be fired. Skinner then fled the scene, heading toward Saw Mill Run Boulevard.

The injured officer was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to a hospital with a laceration to his head and a possible fractured ankle. He is reported to be in stable condition.

Skinner was apprehended at 1:48 p.m. near the railroad tracks in the area of S. 9th Street and P.J. McCardle Roadway. Allegheny County Police have taken over the investigation, which includes the officer’s injury, the shots fired, and any additional crimes committed before Skinner’s capture.

The Pittsburgh Police Department expressed gratitude to the Allegheny County Police, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Oliver Police, and Port Authority Police for their assistance in the apprehension of Skinner. The investigation remains ongoing.
