Postal package busts massive East Boston drug ring

Drug trafficking probe uncovers fentanyl cocaine and firearms in East Boston

Boston, MA – A package shipped across the sea set off a lengthy investigation that ended with police uncovering large quantities of narcotics, firearms, and cash inside multiple East Boston locations.

On Tuesday, detectives with the Boston Police Department Special Investigations Unit and District A-7 Drug Control Unit, working alongside the United States Postal Inspection Service, executed several Suffolk Superior Court-authorized search warrants as part of a narcotics investigation that began with postal inspectors. Investigators determined individuals were using the United States Postal Service to ship cocaine from Puerto Rico into Boston.

Authorities identified multiple parcels and locations connected to the trafficking operation and conducted surveillance along with a controlled delivery of a parcel believed to contain illegal narcotics. After the delivery, officers executed search warrants at residences including 11 Trustman Terrace and 906A Saratoga Street in East Boston.

One recovered parcel was unopened and examined by investigators, who located two brick-shaped packages containing a white, rock-like substance. Testing confirmed the substance was cocaine base with a combined weight of approximately 2,000 grams.

During the searches, investigators seized significant evidence including a 9mm large-capacity semi-automatic firearm with ammunition, additional feeding devices, approximately three and one-half kilograms of fentanyl with an estimated street value exceeding $1 million, and approximately two and one-half kilograms of cocaine valued at more than $150,000. Police also recovered pills believed to be controlled substances, drug packaging materials, heat sealers, scales, safes, lock boxes containing an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, and numerous cellular phones.

As a result of the investigation, 35-year-old Anny Perdomo-Santana of East Boston was arrested. She is expected to be arraigned in East Boston District Court on charges including trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in cocaine, unlawful possession of a large-capacity firearm and feeding device, firearm violation in the commission of a felony, and improper storage of a firearm near a minor.

A second individual was summonsed to court rather than arrested due to medical considerations and is expected to face a charge of trafficking a Class B substance over 200 grams.
