Man sentenced to life for strangling ex-girlfriend and disposing of body in Maryland

Silver Spring, MD A man has been sentenced to life in prison with 40 years suspended for murdering his ex-girlfriend. Francisco Lara-Garcia, 33, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for the death of 20-year-old Keylin Chavez Dominguez.

The couple began dating in early 2021 in Honduras and later moved to Rockville, a suburb of Washington D.C. Lara-Garcia became jealous when Dominguez began a relationship with another man in August 2022.

Chavez Dominguez was last in contact on December 30, 2022, sending a message to her new boyfriend. When she did not make further contact, he reached out to Lara-Garcia, who claimed not to know her whereabouts.

Under pressure from family members, Lara-Garcia reported Chavez Dominguez missing on January 2, 2023. Statements made during this report indicated inconsistencies, leading to suspicion of his involvement.

On January 28, 2023, a man’s discovery of a body concealed in trash bags beneath the eastbound Intercounty Connector confirmed the worst fears. An autopsy determined the victim had been beaten and strangled to death.

Lara-Garcia attempted to flee the region, but was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Missouri on February 1, 2023. In a subsequent interview, he admitted to killing Chavez Dominguez during an argument over music.

Following the argument, Lara-Garcia allegedly punched her multiple times, causing her to fall to the ground. He strangled her until she was lifeless and then transported her body in trash bags to a bridge, where he disposed of her remains before celebrating New Year’s Eve in Philadelphia.

Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts in seeking justice for Chavez Dominguez’s family. The investigation revealed Lara-Garcia’s deceit, which misled both police and the victim’s loved ones for an extended period.

Muskego man leaves mother to die after crash in shocking hit-and-run incident

Muskego, WI A 47-year-old man is charged with reckless homicide after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing his vehicle. Casey Yiannackopoulos is accused of fleeing the scene, leaving his 77-year-old mother behind in the passenger seat.

Witnesses report seeing him running from the crash site on Sunday at approximately 7:15 p.m. First responders encountered the woman, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, unconscious yet breathing.

Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital roughly an hour after rescue.

Surveillance footage captured the vehicle speeding at over 50 mph in a 30 mph zone before it veered off the road. Yiannackopoulos allegedly appeared intoxicated, as noted by witnesses who observed his unsteady movements and strong smell of alcohol.

Witnesses reported he stated he was going to seek help but did not return. After police tracked Yiannackopoulos to his mother’s home, they found him hiding in a crawl space. Officers needed to deploy a drone to locate him under blankets and a plastic bin cover.

When taken into custody, he displayed bloodshot eyes and indicated that he did not know his mother was deceased. A blood draw has been conducted, with the results pending.

Court proceedings reveal Court Commissioner Daniel Rieck expressed disbelief at Yiannackopoulos’ actions, questioning his decision to abandon his mother at the scene of the accident.

Currently, Yiannackopoulos is being held in the Waukesha County Jail on a bond of $750,000. His next court appearance is expected on Thursday.

Two men convicted in murder-for-hire plot after teenager reported sexual assault

Brooksville, FL

Lenard White was found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder and murder-for-hire on Monday in connection with the death of 17-year-old Isabella Scavelli. His cousin, Sheldon Robinson, received the same verdict for accepting $6,000 from White to facilitate the fatal shooting.

Jurors heard that on February 6, Scavelli and her mother accused White of sexually assaulting the teenager. The next day Robinson allegedly shot Scavelli in front of her mother, who was also injured in the attack.

Evidence presented at trial indicated that Scavelli was killed as she attempted to flee from her front door. Prosecutors stated that White had traveled to Georgia shortly after reporting the assault in an effort to establish an alibi.

Investigators executed over 70 search warrants, which led to a detailed understanding of Robinson’s actions on the day of the murder. Communications from Robinson’s phone revealed requests for assistance with a “clean-up job” linked to the crime.

Months after the incident, authorities recovered the handgun used in the murder from a wooded area behind Robinson’s home. White and Robinson were accused of trying to hinder the investigation by tampering with evidence and making false statements to law enforcement.

Robinson and White also discussed plans to kill another potential witness. A third defendant, Keshawn Woods, has pleaded guilty in connection with the case and is awaiting sentencing.

Sentencing for White and Robinson is scheduled for January 30, 2026. They face mandatory life sentences in federal prison.
