CUMBERLAND, MD – A pair of assault arrests made by the Cumberland Police Department last week highlight increasing concerns over violence in the area.
On Friday evening, at approximately 9:30 PM, officers responded to a residence on Independence Street following reports of an assault. Officers discovered a victim who stated that he had been attacked by 48-year-old Jeremy Lee Thomas. The victim showed visible injuries, prompting further investigation.
Police attempted to arrest Thomas, who resisted their efforts. After a brief struggle, officers took him into custody. Thomas requested to be transported to the hospital by the Cumberland Fire Department. Once he was released, he allegedly assaulted an officer and was transported to Central Booking.
Following a bond hearing with a District Court Commissioner, Thomas is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center. He faces charges of second-degree assault (twice) and resisting arrest.
The following day, Saturday, at around 12:20 PM, officers received a disturbance call from a residence on Homer Street. Officers found a victim reporting an assault by 36-year-old Jacob Lee Haines. The victim also had visible injuries.
Authorities placed Haines under arrest, and he was later transported to Central Booking. After being seen by a District Court Commissioner, Haines was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. He faces charges of second-degree assault and second-degree child abuse.
Recent events underline ongoing concerns about safety and violence within the community as police respond to a spate of domestic disturbances.

DOVER, DELAWARE – Two men were arrested early Monday morning for burglary-related charges. Daquan Nocks, 28, and Maleek Gamble, 31, both from Dover, were apprehended after a report of two suspects attempting to enter a residence.
At approximately 4:00 a.m. on Monday, troopers responded to the 400 block of Fork Branch Road. When they arrived, they discovered Nocks and Gamble standing outside the home’s garage. While investigating, troopers found that Nocks had provided false information and was in possession of items belonging to the homeowner taken from an unlocked vehicle.
Nocks was arrested and taken to Troop 9. He has been charged with burglary in the third degree, conspiracy in the second degree, theft under $1,500, and making a false statement. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $4,000 secured bond.
Gamble was also taken to Troop 9 following his arrest. He faces charges of burglary in the third degree, conspiracy in the second degree, and theft under $1,500. Gamble was also arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and is committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution with a secured bond of $3,500.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details have not been released.
In a statement, authorities noted that Nocks provided false information while in possession of stolen property.

WILMINGTON, DE – Delaware State Police arrested 25-year-old Daylast Deshields from Wilmington and obtained a warrant for 34-year-old Brendan Davis from Rehoboth Beach for organized retail crime. The incidents occurred last month at a Target store.
On Thursday, detectives were informed about a theft that took place on September 28 at Target, located at 1050 Brandywine Parkway in Wilmington. The investigation revealed that at approximately 9:00 a.m., an unknown suspect loaded a shopping cart with over $900 worth of clothing and electronics before leaving the store.
The suspect returned shortly after and filled another cart with over $900 worth of merchandise. Soon after, he was confronted by Target’s Asset Protection staff, prompting him to abandon the cart and flee with his accomplice.
Following their investigation, police identified Davis as the primary suspect and Deshields as the accomplice. On Sunday, Deshields was arrested and taken to Troop 1.
Deshields faced charges for organized retail crime and conspiracy, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
Davis currently remains in custody at a correctional facility in West Chester, Pennsylvania, awaiting extradition to Delaware. Upon his return, he will face similar charges.
This incident highlights ongoing issues with retail theft in the area as law enforcement continues to respond to organized crime efforts.

EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ – Officers participated in the Silent Witness Project at Rowan College at Burlington County to honor local residents murdered through domestic violence. The event aimed to commemorate the lives lost due to such acts within the county.
Two Evesham residents were recognized during the ceremony. Theresa Krawiec, 47, was killed on August 8, 2007, suffocated in her sleep by her husband. He committed suicide while facing charges.
Lauren Nobel, 29, was murdered on April 19, 2005. She was stabbed multiple times in her home by her boyfriend, who then set fire to the residence. He received a 30-year prison sentence for her murder.
The project featured silhouettes representing those victims, sharing their stories and memories as part of the remembrance. The event underscored the community’s commitment to addressing domestic violence.
Evesham Township Police noted, “We will never forget both Lauren and Theresa.” The commemorative act reflects the ongoing effort to raise awareness about domestic violence.
