Fairland woman shot dead inside home during argument as suspect flees scene

GAITHERSBURG, MD – A 54-year-old woman was fatally shot inside her Fairland home Thursday evening after a domestic dispute turned deadly, prompting a homicide investigation by Montgomery County Police as authorities search for the suspect who knew the victim and fled the scene.

Sarahi Concepcion Aragon-Cruz was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside her residence on the 3000 block of Memory Lane around 5:41 p.m., according to police. Officers and fire rescue personnel responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting and attempted lifesaving efforts at the scene, but Aragon-Cruz was pronounced dead shortly after.

Investigators say the suspected shooter was a man known to Aragon-Cruz and that the deadly encounter occurred during an argument inside the home. The suspect left before police arrived and has not yet been apprehended.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore to officially determine the cause and manner of death.

Montgomery County’s Major Crimes Division is actively investigating and following leads in the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County, with tips potentially earning a reward of up to $10,000.

No further details about the suspect’s identity or possible motive have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
