Police say the suspect threatened to shoot a witness during one of the incidents
WASHINGTON, DC – A robbery arrest in Northeast DC led police to charge a 27-year-old Maryland man in two additional crimes, including another robbery and an occupied-home burglary where he allegedly threatened to shoot a witness who chased him.
The Metropolitan Police Department identified the man as Zion Abdul Alhassan of Columbia, Maryland.
Aug. 13 robbery leads to arrest
Police said Alhassan approached a victim near 5th and F streets NE at approximately 3:40 p.m. Aug. 13 and forcibly took the victim’s property before fleeing on foot.
The victim’s credit card was later used, according to MPD.
Officers located Alhassan later that day and recovered some of the victim’s property. He was charged with robbery by force and violence and misdemeanor credit card fraud.
Second robbery charge follows
Police also charged Alhassan in an Aug. 8 incident in the 700 block of 3rd Street NE.
MPD said a suspect approached a victim and engaged the person in conversation while walking before snatching the victim’s property and fleeing.
Some of the stolen property was later found discarded.
Police allege occupied home was burglarized
The third case dates to July 28 in the 600 block of Acker Place NE.
Police allege a suspect entered an occupied residence at approximately 3:50 p.m., took property and fled on foot.
The victim and a witness chased the suspect, who allegedly threatened to shoot the witness before getting away.
Alhassan was charged with first-degree burglary and threats to kidnap or injure a person in connection with that incident.
The charges are accusations, and Alhassan is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
