Gaithersburg, MD – A 26-year-old woman from Silver Spring was killed late Sunday night after her vehicle struck a tree and overturned on Cherry Hill Road in a single-car crash now under investigation by Montgomery County Police.

Officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the area near O’Fallon Street at approximately 9:57 p.m. on November 23. First responders found a blue 2007 Toyota Avalon overturned off the roadway with the driver trapped inside.

The driver, identified as Mariama Samateh, was extricated by emergency crews. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to preliminary findings from the Collision Reconstruction Unit, Samateh was driving westbound on Cherry Hill Road when the vehicle failed to navigate a curve, veered off the road, struck a tree, and overturned. Investigators have not yet determined what caused the vehicle to lose control.

Police say it may take weeks or longer to complete the investigation as crash reconstructionists continue to analyze the scene and vehicle data. No other vehicles were involved.
