SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ – In response to the deteriorating air quality caused by the escalating wildfire smoke originating from Canada, Somerset County has taken proactive measures to ensure the well-being of its employees who typically work outdoors, such as in recycling and public works. Following the issuance of a Code Red Air Quality Alert by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJ DEP), these employees have been relocated indoors to safeguard their health.
The Code Red Air Quality Alert was prompted by the alarming increase in smoke levels stemming from the ongoing wildfires in Canada. Recognizing the potential health risks associated with prolonged exposure to the hazardous air, Somerset County officials have prioritized the safety of their workforce.
