STAMFORD, CT – Stamford firefighters were called to a structure fire on Thursday, October 3, at 1:39 PM, at 56 Gurley Road in Stamford’s Shippan neighborhood. Upon arrival, firefighters detected smoke emanating from the back of a single-family home.
Engine 4 from the Shippan fire station reached the scene in under four minutes. Firefighters then located the fire, which had started in the laundry room, and extinguished it. The sole occupant of the house had already evacuated and was uninjured.
The fire was under control within 15 minutes of the firefighting team’s arrival. Firefighters performed overhaul and salvage operations for an additional 30 minutes to prevent further damage.
The incident involved a significant response with 32 personnel from 4 Engine Companies, 1 Truck Company, and 1 Heavy Rescue Company. Support was also provided by Stamford Police Department, Stamford Emergency Medical Services, Stamford Fire Department Training Division, and the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division. Fire and smoke damage were estimated at $50,000, and firefighters managed to save property worth over $1,000,000.
