Surveillance video captures alleged smash and grab theft in Newark

A shattered truck window and stolen power tools have Newark police searching for a suspect captured on surveillance video in the city’s Ironbound section.

NEWARK, N.J. — Newark police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect accused of breaking into a pickup truck and stealing power tools in the Ironbound neighborhood.

According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the victim parked a 2006 Nissan Frontier on Garden Street at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 11.

When the owner returned the following day, the truck’s passenger-side window had been shattered.

Police said surveillance video captured the suspect entering the vehicle and stealing power tools before leaving the area.

Investigators have released an image of the suspect and are asking anyone who recognizes the individual to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips may also be submitted through the Newark Police Division’s website. Information leading to the suspect’s identification may be eligible for a reward.
