Man Charged in Fatal North Versailles Collision
**North Versailles, PA** – Allegheny County Police have charged a man from Wilkins Township following a deadly crash in North Versailles on Thursday.
The incident occurred at 6:12 p.m. at the intersection of Crooked Run Road and 5th Avenue, involving a Nissan Versa driven by 66-year-old Tammy Chonko and a Pontiac Grand Am driven by 20-year-old Aaron Butler. Chonko was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Butler was also hospitalized but remains in stable condition.
North Versailles Police sought support from the Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide and Collision Reconstruction Units, sparking an investigation. It was determined that the Nissan attempted a left turn when it was struck by the Pontiac, which was traveling at 90 miles per hour. A toxicology report confirmed the presence of cannabinoids and THC in Butler’s system.
Butler faces charges, including homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and driving under the influence. At present, he is held in Allegheny County Jail awaiting a preliminary arraignment after turning himself in.
