An 18-year-old was found fatally shot late at night in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. — An 18-year-old from Southeast DC was shot to death on New York Avenue late Tuesday night, and police are searching for the person responsible.

The shooting happened at about 10:38 p.m. Tuesday in the unit block of New York Avenue Northwest.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire and found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and determined there were no signs consistent with life. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Darron Venable, of Southeast DC.

Investigators have not released information about a suspect or a possible motive. The homicide investigation remains ongoing.

The Metropolitan Police Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call (202) 727-9099 or text tips to 50411.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide.
