Police found evidence of a shooting before locating a wounded 15-year-old a short distance away
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A 15-year-old boy was found suffering from a gunshot wound near a Northeast D.C. medical center Thursday evening after officers responded to reports of shots fired and initially found only evidence of a shooting scene.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:40 p.m. to the 4300 block of 12th Place NE following reports of gunfire.
The location is near Providence Hospital and Health Center.
When officers arrived, they discovered evidence indicating a shooting had occurred but did not immediately locate a victim.
A short time later, officers found a 15-year-old boy in the 1100 block of Varnum Street NE. Police said the teen was conscious and breathing and had suffered a gunshot wound.
Officials have not released information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the extent of the teen’s injuries.
No arrests have been announced.
The investigation remained active Thursday night.
