Police say group surrounded man sitting in vehicle before stealing property and fleeing through Northwest neighborhood
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A teenager has been arrested after police said a group of suspects surrounded a man sitting inside a vehicle in Northwest Washington before stealing property and striking the victim in the head with a rock during a violent street robbery.
The robbery happened around 6:04 p.m. May 1 in the 600 block of H Street Northwest, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Investigators said four suspects approached the victim while he was seated inside his vehicle.
Police said one suspect snatched the victim’s property before the group fled on foot.
As the victim was approached by another suspect, investigators said the suspect threw a rock that struck the victim in the head before also running from the scene.
Officers quickly responded and located one of the suspects nearby.
Police arrested a 16-year-old male from Northwest D.C. without incident and charged him with robbery involving a snatching offense.
DC Fire and EMS treated the victim at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said nearby security cameras captured images of the remaining suspects, who have not yet been identified.
The case remains under investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspects to contact MPD or submit anonymous tips through the department’s text tip line.
