Firefighters battled a stubborn early morning blaze at a three-story building in Manhattan, bringing the fire under control after more than four hours with no serious injuries reported.
Manhattan, NY – More than 100 FDNY firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire early Tuesday at a building undergoing renovations in Manhattan, extinguishing the blaze after an intensive operation that lasted more than four hours.
According to the New York City Fire Department, the first reports of smoke came in at approximately 3:15 a.m. at 345 Seventh Avenue, a three-story, non-fireproof building.
Fire spread through second floor
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames on the building’s second floor.
“Our members operated to the best of their ability—going inside, searching, opening up,” Assistant Chief Michael Meyers said. “We had five handlines stretched, two tower ladders in operation, which eventually put the fire out.”
The blaze escalated to a third-alarm assignment as crews worked to contain the fire inside the structure.
No serious injuries reported
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at approximately 7:40 a.m., according to the FDNY.
Officials said no serious injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
