DC alley shooting leaves mother dead as 2-year-old vanishes
Washington, DC — A deadly shooting in a Northwest alley late Tuesday night has triggered a citywide search after a 2-year-old boy disappeared in the moments following his mother’s killing.
Officers responded at approximately 10:52 p.m. to the 600 block of Kenyon Street Northwest, where an adult woman was found in a rear alley suffering from gunshot wounds. She was unconscious and not breathing when first responders arrived. DC Fire and EMS attempted lifesaving efforts, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the woman’s child, identified as 2-year-old Royce Hawkins, was reported missing. Police say the child has not been seen since the incident and his whereabouts remain unknown.
No suspect information has been released, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the homicide.
