Toms River under winter storm warning with up to 5 inches of snow expected

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Township officials are warning residents to prepare for hazardous conditions as a Winter Storm Warning goes into effect Friday afternoon, with forecasters calling for as much as five inches of snow and sleet across the area.

The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, begins at 1 p.m. Friday and remains in effect through Saturday morning. Township officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm and to remove vehicles from streets to allow plows and emergency vehicles to operate safely.

Snow is expected to develop Friday afternoon and continue overnight, mixing with sleet and freezing rain in some areas before tapering off early Saturday. The combination of snow and ice may make roadways slick and difficult to navigate, especially during the evening commute.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the National Weather Service for updated forecasts and to use caution if travel becomes necessary.
