Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Arrest in Dorchester

BOSTON, MA- Officers patrolling District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Cameron Leonard, 22, of Weymouth, early Saturday morning for firearm-related offenses. The arrest followed a traffic stop at Columbia Rd. and Holden St. in Dorchester at 2:10 AM.

Police noticed a vehicle with expired registration while on patrol. They initiated a traffic stop using emergency lights and sirens. The vehicle contained the driver and five other passengers, including Leonard.

During the stop, officers ordered the vehicle’s occupants to exit when they discovered the unregistered status. Notably, Leonard drew officers’ attention by raising his right hand while keeping his left hand in his pocket.

Officers conducted a pat-frisk and felt what appeared to be a firearm. Although Leonard attempted to flee, officers quickly apprehended him and found a firearm in his hooded sweatshirt. Detectives identified the firearm as a Sig Sauer, Model P320 M18, 9mm caliber, with a ten-round magazine containing seven rounds and none in the chamber.
