Fatal rooftop job after ladder hits power line at local church

Two men died Tuesday morning in a tragic accident involving a power line while performing work on the roof of a church in Prince George’s County, according to police.

The incident occurred at the First Baptist Church of Camp Springs, located on Allentown Road. Authorities said the men were using a ladder during their work when it came into contact with a live power line.

Prince George’s County police confirmed the fatal incident involved electrical contact but have not released the names of the victims. The men were reportedly working on the church roof at the time of the accident.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly after the incident occurred, but both victims were pronounced dead. The area was secured as the investigation began.

Officials have not yet stated whether the men were contractors or affiliated with the church.

Investigation continues into deadly power line accident

Police and utility crews are working to determine how the ladder made contact with the power line and whether all safety protocols were followed. The investigation remains in its early stages.

Authorities are also reviewing whether appropriate clearances from the power infrastructure were maintained during the roofing work. The church has not issued a public statement regarding the incident.

Workplace safety officials are expected to assist in the investigation to assess any potential violations and provide recommendations.

No further injuries were reported in the incident, and the church grounds remain closed while crews continue their assessment.
