Lakewood, NJ – Firefighters battled an overnight forest fire in Ocean County Park in Lakewood, bringing the blaze under control after crews responded during the overnight hours.
Officials have not released the size of the fire or identified what sparked the blaze. No injuries have been reported, and authorities have not announced any evacuations or road closures related to the incident.
Second fire keeps crews busy
The overnight forest fire came just hours after the Lakewood Fire Department responded to a separate fire Friday at the Ocean County Recycling Center.
According to the department, firefighters were dispatched to a fire alarm at the facility, which was upgraded to a working structure fire assignment upon arrival because of heavy smoke conditions.
Crews remained on scene for approximately 3½ hours in extreme heat before bringing that fire under control. “No injuries were reported,” the department said, adding that the cause and origin of the recycling center fire remain under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office.
Investigation continues
Authorities have not indicated whether the overnight forest fire is connected to the earlier recycling center fire. The cause of the park fire remains under investigation.
Additional information, including the size of the burned area and the agencies involved in the response, has not yet been released.
