Two men jailed after firearm tossed during Albemarle pursuit

Two men arrested after overnight chase and larceny spree in Albemarle County

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. – Two men were arrested early Thursday after a reported vehicle break-in led to a police pursuit, a discarded firearm, and the recovery of stolen property, authorities said.

The incident began around 1:07 a.m. when a 911 caller reported masked men breaking into vehicles in the 400 block of Crafton Circle. When officers arrived, the suspects fled in a vehicle, prompting a chase northbound on Seminole Trail.

Key Points

  • Police chase follows vehicle break-in report on Crafton Circle
  • Two suspects arrested after pursuit and foot chase
  • Firearms, stolen jewelry, wallets, and cash recovered from vehicle

Pursuit and arrests

During the pursuit, officers said the suspects tossed a firearm from the car before being stopped with a controlled maneuver near Proffit Road. Both fled on foot but were quickly captured — one after a K-9 search.

Police identified the suspects as Maquarr I. Chambers, 22, of Howardsville, and Dyonte L. Trice, 19, of Charlottesville.

Recovered items and charges

A search of the vehicle uncovered a second firearm, stolen jewelry, wallets, cash, and a gaming console. The discarded weapon was also recovered.

Chambers faces multiple charges including felony prohibited wearing of a mask, reckless handling of a firearm, obstructing justice, and four counts of unlawful entry to a vehicle. Trice faces felony eluding, carrying a concealed firearm, and prohibited wearing of a mask.

Both are being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.
