Two NYC men charged with scamming 92-year-old Long Island man in fake sweepstakes

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – Suffolk County police say two New York City men are facing charges after allegedly tricking a 92-year-old Central Islip resident into paying more than $250,000 in a phony sweepstakes scheme.

Investigators identified the suspects as Oral Durloo and Brandon Nairne, both from New York City. Authorities said the men contacted the elderly victim, claiming he had won an $18 million prize but needed to pay “taxes and fees” upfront to collect his winnings. The victim sent several payments before realizing he had been defrauded.

Police arrested both men after tracing the payments and confirming the scam. Detectives believe additional victims may have been contacted using similar tactics and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Police warn residents of ongoing scams

The Suffolk County Police Department reminded residents that legitimate sweepstakes never require upfront payments or fees to claim a prize. Officials encourage the public to consult with trusted family members or contact local law enforcement before sending money to unknown individuals.
