Veteran Arrested for Interfering with US Immigration Operation in Maryland

The Department of Homeland Security said ICE officers arrested two Guatemalan nationals during an enforcement operation in Marydel, Maryland, and also arrested an individual accused of assaulting a federal officer.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is disputing online accounts of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in Maryland, saying federal officers were conducting a targeted enforcement action that resulted in multiple arrests.

In a statement released Wednesday, DHS said ICE officers carried out enforcement operations in Marydel on June 23, where they arrested Eliseo Perez Roblero, 42, a Guatemalan national.

According to DHS, Perez Roblero has pending criminal charges that include rape, assault, and obstruction. Those charges remain allegations unless and until proven in court.

DHS identifies second immigration arrest

Federal officials also announced the arrest of Julian Lopez-Berduo, 40, another Guatemalan national.

DHS said Lopez-Berduo had previously been removed from the United States, had a final order of removal, and did not have legal authorization to remain in the country.

The department described the operation as a targeted immigration enforcement action.

DHS says protester assaulted ICE officer

According to DHS, a group of people opposed to the ICE operation pursued and attempted to block an unmarked government vehicle as officers were leaving a gas station.

The department alleged that one individual kicked the government vehicle and assaulted an ICE officer during the encounter.

DHS said that individual was arrested and could face charges related to the alleged assault of a federal law enforcement officer.

“Secretary Mullin has been clear: if you lay a hand on a law enforcement, you will face the consequences,” DHS said in its statement.

“We have ZERO tolerance for violence against law enforcement.”

The department did not immediately identify the individual arrested during the encounter or announce any formal charges.
