Hampton man grabs final $1 million prize on scratcher now shut down statewide

CARROLLTON, VA — A stop at a Carrollton gas station has produced the final $1 million top prize in a Virginia Lottery scratcher game, officially closing it statewide.

An anonymous Hampton man purchased a 20X the Money ticket at Raceway Carrollton, 13028 Carrollton Boulevard, and uncovered the game’s $1 million top prize.

Virginia law allows winners of prizes worth $1 million or more to remain anonymous, and Lottery officials did not release his identity.

When claiming the prize, the winner told officials he had dreamed about the moment and did not expect to sleep.

This marks the third and final top prize claimed in 20X the Money, game number 2310. Under Virginia Lottery policy, scratcher games are closed once the last top prize is claimed.

The odds of winning the $1 million top prize were 1 in 1,795,200. The overall odds of winning any prize in the game were 1 in 3.65.

The winner said he plans to use the money to pay off debts.

All Virginia Lottery profits support K-12 education across the Commonwealth. Isle of Wight County, where the ticket was purchased, received more than $4.1 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2025, the Lottery generated more than $901 million for K-12 education, representing approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.

For one Hampton resident, a single scratch at a Carrollton gas station has now closed out a million-dollar game.
