NEW YORK — A man disrupted religious services at a Midtown synagogue Monday evening after entering the building without permission, recording video, and shouting anti-Semitic statements, police said.
The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. inside a synagogue at 122 East 58th Street, according to the NYPD.
Authorities said the unidentified man entered the synagogue and began recording video inside the premises without authorization. He then proceeded into the main service room, where a religious gathering was underway, and shouted anti-Semitic remarks, causing a disruption to the service.
After the disturbance, the individual fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is leading the investigation.
The suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion, last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt and pants.
Police have not made any arrests as of Thursday.
The NYPD said the man “began recording inside the location without authorization and proceeded to enter the main service room while religious services were in session.”
