BROOKLYN, NY – Police are searching for a suspect who pushed a 58-year-old woman onto the subway tracks at the Lafayette Avenue station Thursday night in what authorities are calling a random, unprovoked assault.

The NYPD said the incident occurred around 10 p.m. on January 8, when the victim was standing on the Manhattan-bound platform inside the station, located within the 88th Precinct and Transit District 30. An unidentified individual approached her from behind and suddenly shoved her onto the tracks before fleeing the scene.

Bystanders and MTA employees rushed to help the woman back onto the platform before an oncoming train arrived. She suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, according to police.

Detectives are reviewing video from station cameras and nearby street surveillance to identify the suspect. The Lafayette Avenue station, which serves the C line, remained open after the attack but saw heightened police presence overnight.
