Grand Jury Finds Driver Who Killed Two Young Brothers Near Linden Refinery Guilty

LINDEN, NJ – The driver who killed 22-year-old Manuel Green and 15-year-old Clarence Green of Newark last June was found guilty this week in court. A Union County grand jury has returned a two-count indictment against Jose Reyes-Morales, 32.

According to police, shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, members of the Linden Police Department responded to the intersection of Route 1 and Morses Mill Rd (the Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery entrance) on reports of a serious motor vehicle crash.

“Reyes-Morales was operating a 2017 BMW sedan that was traveling north on Route 1 when it collided with a 2004 Mazda sedan that was making a U-turn from Interstate 278,” police said. “The Green brothers were both pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the crash. An ensuing eight-month investigation led by the Linden Police Traffic Bureau, with assistance from the Union County Homicide Task Force, resulted in the filing of charges against Reyes-Morales He was arrested at his home in Elizabeth on Tuesday, February 22nd.”

Reyes-Morales is facing five to ten years in prison.
