Yonkers school teacher charged for holding knife to 5th grader

YONKERS, NY – A Yonkers school teacher has been charged after he allegedly held a knife near a 5th-grade student in the hallway of the elementary school he worked at.

A joint investigation by the Yonkers Police Department, Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, and Yonkers Public Schools are investigating William Archacki, 50, for endangering the welfare of a child.

According to a police report, a student at Public School #21, located on Lee Avenue, alleged that Archacki, who was a 5th-grade teacher, caused fear for their safety by walking up behind them while holding a paring knife during school hours on February 8th, 2023. The incident was reported, and

Archacki was placed on modified duty the next day, pending the investigation.

After an extensive investigation, Yonkers Police Detectives arrested Archacki on April 13th, 2023.

He was arraigned in Yonkers Criminal Court and later released on his own recognizance, awaiting future court appearances. The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.

No information has been released regarding the identities of students or other minors involved in the incident.

Yonkers Public Schools assured that they are cooperating fully with the authorities and taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of their students.
