Brooklyn Man Arrested and Charged in Connection with Fatal Hit-and-Run

BROOKLYN, NY – Following an ongoing investigation, 23-year-old Mike Josie has been arrested today and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on June 24, 2022, at the intersection of Throop Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

Upon responding to a 911 call, police found a 43-year-old female motorized scooter operator lying on the roadway with severe body trauma. The victim, identified as Bernadine Lewis, was transported to NYC Health & Hospitals/Kings County, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that Lewis was traveling northbound on Throop Avenue when a dark-colored Hyundai sedan, driven by Josie, struck her while traveling westbound on Lexington Avenue.

The sedan operator knocked Lewis to the roadway before fleeing the incident location. Josie now faces several charges, including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, reckless driving, traffic device violation, and speed violation.
