LEWES, DE – The Delaware State Police arrested Laura Wilson, a 52-year-old resident of Lewes, early Thursday morning, for felony DUI and resisting arrest after a pursuit in Lewes.
The incident unfolded around 12:56 a.m., when a patrolling trooper spotted a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee driving without headlights on John J. Williams Highway near Camellia Drive. The trooper attempted to stop the Jeep, but the driver, identified as Wilson, failed to comply. After striking a guardrail and driving into the Love Creek neighborhood, Wilson eventually stopped her vehicle at Camellia Drive and Cornflower Lane.
The trooper detected signs of impairment and a smell of alcohol from Wilson, who tried to get back into her Jeep and resisted arrest. A computer check revealed that Wilson had two prior DUI convictions.
Wilson was charged with third offense DUI, disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, and numerous traffic offenses. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,307 secured bond.
