Boyfriend Thwarts Carjacking in Maplewood

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – On late Thursday night, the Maplewood Police Department received reports of an attempted carjacking at 256 Franklin Avenue.

According to the victim’s report, while sitting in her parked car, two young men approached the woman inside the vehicle. One of them tried to pull her from the vehicle, while the other assaulted her when she attempted to call for help.

The suspects fled on foot east on Franklin Avenue when the victim’s boyfriend emerged from the residence and began yelling at them.

The victim described the suspects as young, black males between the ages of 15 to 17 years, standing roughly 5’11” and wearing black and white hooded sweatshirts.

No weapons were displayed during the incident, and the victim sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment. Anyone with information or video evidence is encouraged to contact Detective Rodrigues at 973-761-7920.
